In brief: On September 24, 2026, Google announced three Demand Gen updates: a Business Agent that can answer product questions alongside eligible YouTube ads, one-click website journeys from image ads in Shorts and Gmail, and affiliate location extensions in Google Maps for retail networks and dealerships. The common goal is to shorten the path from discovery to information and action.
What is changing in Google Demand Gen?
According to Google's official announcement, a conversational AI experience called Business Agent is being tested alongside eligible YouTube ads that use product feeds. Viewers can ask questions about a product or brand without leaving the viewing context. This points towards ads becoming interactive information surfaces rather than static messages.
The second change simplifies the journey from image ads to landing pages in YouTube Shorts and Gmail. On Shorts, the one-click experience applies when advertisers provide 9:16 full-bleed image assets. Gmail is also moving towards a simpler path that can take a user directly from an eligible ad click to the advertiser's website.
Google says that, in its global internal data, advertisers adding Gmail to Demand Gen saw image creatives achieve an average 40% increase in conversions at the same ROI. This is not a guarantee and should not be presented as an Azerbaijan-specific result. Performance still depends on the offer, audience, creative, website and measurement quality.
The third update uses Affiliate Location Extensions to help retail networks and dealerships reach local demand with promoted pins in Google Maps. Google Ads documentation explains that Maps ads may appear while people browse the map, search or follow a route, subject to eligibility and campaign requirements.
What connects the three updates?
Each feature is designed to remove friction from a different part of the decision journey. Business Agent answers questions near the ad, one-click formats shorten the route to the website, and Maps placements create visibility close to a physical point of sale. Creative, information, landing pages and locations are therefore becoming parts of one performance system.
This also shows why media planning cannot stop at impressions and clicks. The question answered by the ad, the destination page and the speed and clarity of the mobile experience can all influence the business outcome.
What could this mean for businesses in Azerbaijan?
For ecommerce businesses, product-feed quality and mobile landing pages become more important. Incomplete prices, availability, descriptions or imagery will limit both AI-assisted answers and the post-click experience.
Maps opportunities are particularly relevant to automotive dealers, electronics and appliance retailers, pharmacies, supermarkets and other multi-location businesses. Visibility combined with accurate location, opening-hour and route information may support store visits when a user is already searching nearby. Google Business Profile data and account connections need to remain current.
For service businesses, the lesson is not simply to add more channels. It is to simplify the customer journey. The ad should address a specific need, the landing page should answer it, and the form, call or WhatsApp action should work smoothly on mobile.
Six actions before launching a campaign
Verify availability in the account: confirm whether each feature is active for the relevant country, language, campaign and account. Announced capabilities may not launch in every market at the same time.
Audit the product feed: review product names, categories, prices, availability, images and URLs. An AI experience cannot compensate for unreliable source data.
Build native 9:16 assets: create full-screen images and videos with a clear first-view message, limited text and safe zones suitable for Shorts.
Measure landing-page speed: a one-click ad can bring the visitor faster, but a slow or confusing page can still lose the conversion. Test mobile speed, the main CTA and the form journey.
Align location information: keep Google Business Profile, addresses, phone numbers, opening hours and map connections consistent. Location assets are central to Maps eligibility.
Measure the complete journey: compare impressions, clicks and conversions by product, creative, landing page and location. Keep online leads and store-visit outcomes distinct.
Marketing Partner's view
We treat automated campaigns such as Demand Gen as a connected system of creative, product information, media distribution, landing pages and analytics. Before activating a new format, businesses should define the objective, audience, offer and measurement rules.
Marketing Partner can structure Google Ads campaigns and measurement through its Search Engine Marketing (SEM) service, while its digital marketing service aligns the full journey from creative and landing page to sales outcomes.
